🎙️ Beyond Silence:

🎙️ Beyond Silence: Cross-Cultural Conversations on Pelvic Health
EP1 | Postpartum Pelvic Floor Recovery: What Does the Latest Evidence Tell Us?
Every time Joy and I finish recording an episode, the conversation continues long after the cameras stop.
We talk about clinical practice, research, culture, and the different ways women learn to understand their bodies. Each conversation opens up new questions and brings together perspectives shaped by different countries, healthcare systems, and professional experiences.
Joy is a pelvic health physical therapist from South Korea who is currently practicing in the United States. In this episode, she shares key insights from IUGA 2026, one of the world’s leading international conferences in urogynecology and female pelvic floor health.
Together, we explore:
✔️ The latest evidence on postpartum pelvic floor recovery
✔️ The role of ultrasound and MRI in assessment
✔️ Why rehabilitation is about more than strengthening muscles
✔️ How nutrition, exercise, and lifestyle influence pelvic health
✔️ Why pelvic health may need to begin before pregnancy
Postpartum recovery is not simply about whether the pelvic floor was injured during childbirth. It is also not defined only by vaginal birth versus cesarean delivery.
Pregnancy, childbirth, healing, movement, lifestyle, and many other factors shape a woman’s recovery. Urinary leakage, pelvic pain, and postpartum discomfort should not be dismissed with the phrase, “It is just normal after having a baby.”
Through evidence-based practice and cross-cultural dialogue, we hope to help more women better understand their bodies and feel empowered to seek appropriate care.
Speaking with a pelvic rehabilitation professional who shares the same vision is always deeply rewarding. Even after recording ends, Joy and I often continue talking, exchanging ideas, and discovering new possibilities.
We hope Beyond Silence will continue to grow into an ongoing conversation across cultures, professions, and lived experiences—and help bring pelvic health out of silence.
